Welcome to the Red lion
After many years of neglect The Red Lion re-opened in March 2018 after a period of extensive redecoration and redevelopment. We can now offer a friendly, warm and welcoming pub serving the community of Rusthall and surrounding areas. We are free of any tie to any brewery or supplier and can therefore offer a fantastic selection of quality real ales and lagers, spirits and a wine menu which has been specially selected to compliment the authentic Thai food that we provide in co-operation with our friends from The Elephant Thai kitchen. In addition to our quality drinks and Thai cuisine.
The wonderful chefs in The Elephant Thai Kitchen provide freshly cooked authentic Thai cuisine to suit all tastes. All dishes are cooked fresh to order and can therefore be adjusted to your own personal tastes. Due to the cooking of all dishes to order we can also offer extensive options to vegetarians, vegans and those with dietary requirements such as gluten free. We offer a takeaway service, orders are taken at the bar which allows you the chance to sample our fine drinks selection while you wait.
Live Jazz every Saturday and a selection of laid back atmospheric jazz.
The Red Lion is a Grade II listed historic Coach house which was first licensed in 1415 and reputed to have been built in the Fourteenth century. Located in the conservation area centred around Rusthall lower green, it is within easy walking distance of historic Shadwell woods which lead on to Speldhurst, the bluebell valleys of Hurst Woods and also the famous Toad Rocks area of Denny Bottom.
A message from Marc Phuket … proud owner of the Red Lion
I’d dreamed of having my own pub for over 20 years, and had looked at hundreds.
I was offered The Red Lion & so went to visit, In a flash I knew it was perfect – even though it had earned its nickname “The Dead Lion”.
The warmth and atmosphere of the 600-year-old building just oozed out at me.
